Max Capdebarthes

Sauveterre Leather Sheath for 9 cm Pocket Knives

4 left in stock - Order now.

This full-grain leather sheath can accommodate knives with a 9 cm handle (3.54 inch). It features a metal snap closure and a horizontal belt loop that can accommodate a 1.3/4" wide belt. Double stitching can be found on all stress areas to provide years of use without stitch failure. This sheath is made of 1/8 inch thick ultra-soft cowhide full-grain leather.

Max Capdebarthes is a master leather craftsman located in the tiny (pop. 800) 12th-century village of  Sauveterre de Rouergue in the southwest of France. Note that although irrelevant to the purchase of a knife sheath, it is worth noting that Sauveterre de Rouergue was voted "one of the most beautiful villages of France".

Each sheath is made from carefully selected genuine cowhide. Mr. Max Capdebarthes is considered by most knife manufacturers as the best leather craftsman in Europe, perhaps the world. Many acclaimed cutlers, such as Forge de Laguiole, Fontenille Pataud and other contracts Max for their sheath needs.

Consider this:  Max Capdebarthes only works with full-grain leather which is the highest quality grade of leather money can buy. This leather type comes from the top layer of the hide and includes all of the natural grain and natural marks. It is more expensive to buy and more difficult to work with, as a result, this is reflected in the cost to the consumer.

Break-In period:  Your new sheath may appear to be a little stiff at first, this is normal. As full-grain leather ages, it will adapt to the shape of your knife. Over time, the sheath will develop a much sought-after patina and a unique character that cannot be duplicated. The more you use it, the better it will look and feel.
