What is a Forged Bee?
A forged bee is a hallmark of superior craftsmanship. You can identify it by examining the transition where the bee meets the decorated spring; if there are no visible gaps, the bee and spring were forged from a single piece of metal. This traditional method preserves the structural integrity and historical authenticity of the 1800s originals.
In contrast, many budget-friendly options feature soldered bees, recognizable by a straight gap or ridge where the bee is attached. Soldering is a modern, cost-saving method that lacks the durability and artisanal value of a true Forge de Laguiole instrument.
