Max Capdebarthes is a master leather craftsman located in the tiny (pop. 800) 12th-century village of Sauveterre de Rouergue in the southwest of France.
With only five craftsmen (actually primarily women), Max Capdebarthes has mastered every aspect of leather crafting to produce the best knife sheaths money can buy at any price. About this sheath: Double stitching can be found on all stress areas to provide years of use without stitch failure. This sheath is made of 1/8 inch thick ultra-soft cowhide full-grain leather. Pictured Knife(s) not included.
This sheath is for: Four sizes are available, the 9/10 and 11 cm, 12/13cm and 13/14cm.
The 9/10 cm is designed for 9 & 10 cm knives (3. 1/2" - 3. 7/8 ") handle length size.
The 11 cm is designed for 11 & 12 cm knives (4. 1/3" - 4. 3/4") handle length size.
The 12/13 cm is designed for 12 & 13 cm knives ( 4. 3/4" - 5. 1/16" -) handle length size.
Max Capdebarthes works only with full-grain leather, the highest-quality grade available. This leather is sourced from the top layer of the hide, retaining all its natural grain and unique characteristics. While full-grain leather is more costly and demands exceptional skill to craft, it provides unmatched durability and aging potential.
Your new sheath may appear to be a little stiff at first; this is normal. As full-grain leather ages, it will adapt to the shape of your knife. Over time, the sheath will develop a much sought-after patina and a unique character that cannot be duplicated. The more you use it, the better it will look and feel.
The beauty of your leather sheath is only matched by its durability. To keep it looking like new, avoid exposure to sun and water for long periods as this can cause fading and cracks over time. Cleaning isn't enough—periodically apply a premium leather conditioner to maintain its suppleness.
