The Nontron knife shares the name of the French village of its birth located in the Dordogne department. This knife's history is based on so many legends that it is difficult to date its exact origin; however, most experts agree that the Nontron knife is the oldest French folding knife dating back to the 13th century. Today, the cutlery that bears its name since 1928 produces handmade knives using ancestral methods. The procedures used to conceive todays' Nontron pocket knives are nearly the same since the fifteenth century.

❖  ABOUT THIS KNIFE  ❖

Handle material: Hand-shaped from retired oak wine barrel used by the Château Poulvère Vineyards, France.

Handle type: Early 20th-century antique reproduction.

Locking system: Slipjoint. A strong "back spring" holds the blade in position but is not "locked." Most French traditional pocket knives continue to use this proven system (i.e. Laguiole knives).

Well made knife

I have purchased in the past Boker knives with the beer barrel scales, and I really like this type of handle material. The Violin knife is even more visually appealing with the burgundy stain and medium brown hues. The fit in the hand is excellent. This has become one of my frequent edc rotation knives.
