Forge de Laguiole knives are a French symbol of quality, craftsmanship, and design. The higher cost of certain models, like the "Forged Collection", can be explained by the sheer amount of time spent to create intricate chiseling on the bee and unique filling on the springs. Every knife in this collection is unique and individually photographed.
The art of chiseling and filling a "one of a kind" folding knife is time-consuming, sometimes well over one hour to complete the spring & bee alone. Only the shop's most skilled cutlers/artists can achieve this highly complex task.
Most mass-market Laguiole knives feature a soldered bee and rarely a hand-chiseled spring top or chiseled bee. Each knife features the iconic Shepherd's cross and a blade stop that prevents the blade from contacting the bottom of the spring.
Handmade in the village of Laguiole, France, Forge de Laguiole knives are indeed and by far the highest quality offered in the market today. Additionally, each masterpiece is handmade by the same craftsman to ensure pride in the completed piece.
