The Mushroom & Garden Knife by Gilles® Fontenille Pataud is an essential tool for serious foragers and outdoor enthusiasts. While designed specifically for the delicate task of harvesting mushrooms with its traditionally curved blade, its robust construction makes it equally effective for precision garden tasks like pruning and grafting.
Handcrafted in Thiers—the historic heart of French cutlery—each knife is meticulously created from start to finish by a single master artisan. This model utilizes a traditional slip joint mechanism, offering the classic feel and reliability of a heritage folding knife. Proudly 100% Made in France.
Handle Character: This model features genuine Burled Beech End Grain scales. Utilizing the end grain of the burl reveals a complex mosaic of tight "eyes" and swirling cellular structures. This orientation ensures a highly stable handle and a unique visual texture that is rare in traditional foraging tools. The knife pictured is the exact one you will receive.
Hand-Chiseled Artistry: A hallmark of the Gilles® collection, each knife features a hand-filed spring top. This intricate decorative work is performed by a master cutler using traditional files, ensuring that no two knives are exactly alike. This elevated detail distinguishes these professional foraging tools from mass-produced alternatives.

Stabilized burled beech "End-Grain" or "Bois Debout" in French harvested in France. End grain is the grain of wood seen when it is cut across the growth rings. Rather than cutting a plank of wood the trunk's length, end grain wood is actually cut at a 90-degree angle to the grain. This type of cut exposes the character of the wood rings and graining.
