Exotic Red Calceon Mineral Composite
The handle is crafted from Red Calceon™, an extraordinary mineral composite developed by legendary Danish artisans Raffir. Built upon natural calcite rock formed over centuries near mineral-rich hot springs, the raw porous mineral retains the organic textures of petrified stone. It is then stabilized through high-pressure vacuum infusion using a deep ruby-red resin, creating a handle that combines the cool weight and natural veining of real stone with exceptional durability. Because each calcite piece forms naturally in the earth, every individual knife showcases its own unique mineral inclusions and ribboned contrast.
Hand-Filed Monobloc Bee & Spring
As part of the prestigious Forge de Laguiole Collection series, the iconic bee symbol and back-spring are hot-forged out of a single solid piece of raw steel (monobloc construction) with zero weld lines or seams. A single master artisan uses traditional metal files and chisels to hand-carve intricate decorative guilloché patterns along the entire spine of the spring. Because each pattern is individually filed by hand without templates or automated machinery, no two knives feature the exact same hand-chiseled detailing.

The file work on the springs (top of handle) are individually hand filled by a French artisan, therefore all are different. Additionally, two handles made from the same material can have very different patterns.

Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) harvested in Gabon, Africa. Ebony is the darkest wood in the world and one of the few that does not float. Generally, Ebony trees are small and slow-growing. Worldwide demand for ebony wood is very high: it’s a high-quality hardwood that’s very hard, very strong, and most of all, very black. As a result, many species of Ebony have been banned from export.
Note that the international trade of Gabon Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) used on this model is highly regulated.
