The 11 cm Classic Laguiole with Burled Beech End Grain is a rare showcase of complex wood geometry and French cutlery innovation. Handcrafted from start to finish by a single expert cutler in Thiers, these knives represent the pinnacle of the Gilles® Fontenille Pataud collection. The 11 cm handle provides a refined, compact profile that highlights the extraordinary visual depth of this unique wood cut.
The handle is crafted from Burled Beech, specifically utilizing the End Grain. By cutting across the growth rings rather than with them, the master cutler reveals a mesmerizing mosaic of "tiger-eye" swirls and dense, stippled patterns unique to the burl. This orientation not only increases the handle's surface hardness and durability but also creates a 3D-like shimmering effect. Because these intricate patterns are as unique as fingerprints, every knife in this collection is photographed individually. The specific knife you see in the images is the exact one you will receive.
Each knife features a forged bee and a full-length, hand-chiseled spring, along with a solid hardened blade stop. This essential technical feature prevents the blade's edge from contacting the inner spring, ensuring the razor-sharp 12C27 stainless steel blade remains perfectly preserved for a lifetime of service.

Things to Look For
The file work on the springs (top of handle) are individually hand filled by a French artisan, therefore all are different. Additionally, two handles made from the same material can have very different patterns.
You need to know
Stabilized burled beech "End-Grain" or "Bois Debout" in French harvested in France. End grain is the grain of wood seen when it is cut across the growth rings. Rather than cutting a plank of wood the trunk's length, end grain wood is actually cut at a 90-degree angle to the grain. This type of cut exposes the character of the wood rings and graining.
Pocket knives are shipped same business day from Florida when ordered by 4 PM Eastern time. UPS delivery can be expected in 1 to 3 business days depending on destination. International shipping options are available at checkout.

Corkscrews
Important Note on Use: Waiter-style corkscrews are designed for use with a secure grip on the bottle neck. Please do not use the tool by clamping the bottle between your knees and pulling the handle. This technique often applies excessive force, which is likely to bend the screw (worm) and will immediately void the product warranty.
To keep your pocket knife or corkscrew in top condition, follow these maintenance tips:
Important Note: Tuf Glide is not considered a "food-safe" product. Avoid using it on knives that come into contact with food.
