Forge de Laguiole "Le Nomade" Cheese Knife

2 - In Stock

Embodying the soul of French gastronomic tradition, the Forge de Laguiole "Le Nomade" Cheese Knife is a masterful collaboration between the historic forge and the legendary Master Cheesemaker Roland Barthélemy. As one of the world's foremost authorities on cheese, a holder of the French Légion d'Honneur, and president of the International Guilde des Fromagers, Barthélemy designed Le Nomade from decades of professional experience to solve the problems standard knives face when meeting a curated cheese board.

Heirloom-Grade Solid Construction: Make no mistake—Le Nomade is a serious, heavy culinary instrument. Weighing a substantial 5 ounces (141 grams), it feels incredibly robust and well-balanced in the hand. Built with a full-tang blade and a solid center core, this knife delivers reassuring heft that gives you effortless leverage over firm cheeses like aged Comté, while remaining delicate enough to cleanly slice soft bries without smearing. This is a heavy-duty, professional-grade masterpiece engineered to endure decades of daily use and become a family heirloom passed down through generations.

A Spectrum of Modern Elegance: To complement any table setting or personal style, Le Nomade is available in three vibrant color variants: Classic Black, Deep Blue, and Radiant Red. Whether you want a striking pop of color for your cheese board or a timeless, subtle aesthetic, each option offers the same impeccable finish and exceptional performance.

Masterfully Engineered Versatility: Roland Barthélemy designed this knife to be the ultimate companion for modern, social dining, such as lively Apéro Dînatoire events. Its unique blade geometry serves multiple functions seamlessly:

  • The Micro-Serrated Tip: Expertly engineered to impeccably penetrate hard rinds and clean-cut soft cheeses without tearing the paste.
  • The Wide, Rounded Profile: Features a broad surface that doubles as a highly efficient spreader for soft, creamy cheeses, terrines, or tapenades.
  • The Ergonomic Silhouette: The handle curves gracefully upward, providing natural clearance for your knuckles and maximum leverage when slicing down into dense rinds.

High-Density Industrial Handle: Built for the rigors of both home entertainment and professional service, the handle is crafted from an ultra-premium, high-density compressed cotton fabric. Made in the USA, this highly specialized material is actually harder than wood and exceptionally resistant to water. It offers a smooth, tactile grip that withstands moisture and oils, ensuring the knife maintains its structural integrity and flawless finish for decades to come.

100% Handcrafted in Laguiole: True to the strict standards of the workshop, every single Le Nomade knife is manufactured from start to finish by the exact same master smith in the historic village of Laguiole, France. The proprietary French stainless steel blade is forged, hardened, and hand-sharpened to deliver unparalleled edge retention and slicing precision.

Thanks to its specialized compressed fabric handle, Le Nomade is technically dishwasher safe. However, to preserve the mirror-like luster of the steel and prevent the rich handle finish from fading over time, hand washing immediately after use is always highly recommended.

Wash using warm water, a mild liquid dish soap, and a non-scratch cloth or sponge. Dry thoroughly with a soft towel before storing. Never allow the knife to soak standing in water, as high mineral content can cause water-spot staining on the steel.

This knife set is dishwasher safe. However, it is always best to avoid repeated use of a dishwasher as such practice can, over time, fade the finish of the handle material.

Although these knives can be safely washed in the dishwasher, hand washing right after use is always recommended to preserve the quality of your knives. For best results, use warm water, a mild detergent, and a non-scratch cloth or sponge. Hand dry with a towel before storing.

Never allow knives to soak in water, this may cause rust or staining from the mineral content in some water.

If you do choose to place your cutlery in the dishwasher, it is important to note the following to avoid damages that can void the manufacturer warranty:
  • Load your knives blade side down in the utensil basket, do not lay them flat on a rack. Be sure that knives are not touching in the basket.
  • High pressure water can result in items being jostled around and hitting each other, causing blades to become dented, chipped and/or dulled.
  • Abrasive dishwasher detergent and water mineral content can affect the finish or shine of your cutlery. We recommend experimenting with different detergent brands & rinse agents to find the best combination for your dishwasher.
  • All dishwashers perform differently and dry cycles may not dry contents completely which may result in water spot stains.
As with any sharp instrument, use care to prevent injuries. Even with knives pointing down, it is still unsafe to unload a dishwasher with blades inside.
