This knife is handmade in the village of Laguiole and has a forged bee and forged carbon steel blade. Each one has been crafted with pride by a single master cutler, ensuring that each masterpiece is unique to its craftsman's work ethic!
Early Laguiole knives did not have stainless blades; this alloy was invented in 1913.
Carbon knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear, and ease of sharpening. However, the blade will need to be protected from rust.
The Forge de Laguiole workshop is located in the tiny village of Laguiole, France - Pop. 1300 - where the famous knife first appeared in the early 1800s. Today, Forge de Laguiole represents the pinnacle of quality in the Laguiole cutlery business. Their reputation for integrity, ethics, and innovative designs has made these small 100 employees company the "Must Have" Laguiole luxury brand.
What is a Forged Bee? You can recognize a forged bee when you look just below it, where it meets the decorated spring. If you do not see any gaps, it's a good sign that the bee and spring were forged from the same piece of metal. You can also recognize a soldered bee by noticing a straight gap/ridge where the bee meets the spring.
Horn Tip from domestic cattle. The tip of the horn is the hardest and most durable, Inferior horn handles are made from the bottom of the horn which will warp with time.
Note: The color of the piece you will receive may vary from the stock photos. Please contact us if you have a specific preference, we will do our best to accommodate your need if such piece is available.
Forge de Laguiole pocket knives are shipped same business day from Florida when ordered by 4 PM Eastern time. UPS delivery can be expected in 1 to 3 business days depending on destination. International shipping options are available at checkout.
The ultra-modern Forge de Laguiole workshop was created by French designer
Philippe Starck and feature an 18 meters (58 feet) gleaming blade
soaring into the sky above Laguiole.
* We provide free U.S. base warranty and repair support for Forge de Laguiole items purchased from one of our U.S retailers or Laguiole-Imports.com.
Forge de Laguiole items purchased overseas or from an unauthorized retail channel will need to be shipped to France and back to the U.S. at the owner's expanse. The original retail channel will need to be contacted for assistance.
Avoid leaving your carbon blade knife in damp environments for too long. Place a little food-grade mineral oil on all metal parts regularly. Dry the blade using a dry cloth after each use. Carbon knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear, and easy of sharpening. The hardness obtained after heat treatment are theoretically slightly greater in steels that do not contain chrome. The cutting strength is, therefore, better with a Carbon steel knife and sharpening is much easier than stainless steel blades that contain chrome. However, Carbon has a low resistance to corrosion caused by moisture, which means that certain precautionary measures are necessary when using and storing Carbon knives: we recommend that you avoid damp environments and that you dry the blade after each use.
We Recommend the use of Tuf-Glide Oil-Free Lubricant 1/4 oz Pen. Periodically place a couple of drops of lubricant on the axle of all moving parts.
