The Laguiole knife originated in Laguiole, France, in the early 1820s. Later, its manufacturing was moved to the more industrialized city of Thiers, France. This knife was crafted entirely by hand in Thiers, known as Europe's cutlery capital. The "Gilles®" Fontenille Pataud knives collection is widely regarded as some of the finest French pocket knives available for purchase.
The Gilles series exclusively offers knives that are handcrafted by a single artisan, guaranteeing a sense of pride in owning the finished product. These knives are proudly created in France with a 100% made-in-France certification.
Guilloche: The Guilloché series exemplifies masterful craftsmanship on the spring, upper and lower liners, and the entire upper edge of the blade. The intricate design is stunning and unique, making this collection a true work of art.
Technical aspects: This 12 cm handle knife features a forged bee, a full-length hand-chiseled spring, and the famous shepherd cross. It also features a solid hardened blade stop to help prevent the blade's edge from making contact with the inner area of the spring.
What is a Forged Bee? To determine if a bee has been forged or soldered, inspect where it meets the spring below. If there are no gaps, likely, the bee and the spring were jointly forged. If there is a straight gap or ridge at that point, then it is a sign the bee was soldered.
