The Yssingeaux (pronounced "e seɪn jo") is named after its birthplace of "Yssingeaux" a village in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The version of the knife you see today was baptized Yssingeaux around 1920 but was also found in slightly different formats since the late 1800s under the name ""Issoire", "Bourbonnais (1890)", "Façon Chabrol (1908)" and "Le Basque (1912)". Today, Fontenille Pataud also offers a slightly, more contemporary version of this knife that features a lock back system named "5 Coqs".
Consider this: This knife is handmade in Europe's capital of cutlery, "Thiers." The “Gilles®” Fontenille Pataud collection of knives are considered by many to be some of the best pocket knives money can buy. All Knives offered by Gilles are entirely made by a single craftsman, ensuring pride of ownership of the final piece. 100% Made in France
You will receive the actual folding knife shown in the photos.

Things to Look For
The file work on the springs (top of handle) are individually hand filled by a French artisan, therefore all are different. Additionally, two handles made from the same material can have very different patterns.
You need to know
Stainless Steel needle/studs inlay - Horn Tip from domestic cattle. The tip of the horn is the hardest and most durable; inferior horn handles are made from the bottom of the horn, which will warp with time.
Studded Work: Stainless Steel needles/studs inlay are each inserted and cut by hand. This stunning diamond shape artwork is exceptionally time-consuming and can only be carry-out by Fontenille Pataud's most skilled artisans.

This knife features a solid hardened blade stop to help prevent the blade's edge from making contact with the inner area of the spring. This knife's handle is progressively wider toward the bottom. This characteristic provides a safer grip.
