POCKET KNIVES Pierre-Jean Calmels, blacksmith in the village of Laguiole France, conceived the first Laguiole knife in 1829, building two models, the capuchadou knife of the ordinary peasants of the Aubrac and the Spanish Navaja broth back from Catalogne by seasonal workers.
Over the years the Laguiole knife as evolved and become one if not the most gracious non threatening pocket knife money can buy. Never registered the Laguiole name now represent a style of knife that can be made anywhere in the world and named "Laguiole" by anyone (see Laguiole Guidelines on the bottom left of this page for more info on the subject). All Laguiole knives found on Laguiole Imports are made in France by several of France's best craftsman.
